NFTs have great potential for provable scarcity and ownership, yet the lack of a verifiable identity layer limits the fulfilment of this potential. This article presents a case of NFT fraud and copyright infringement, and describes how self-sovereign identity (SSI) can be the solution to verify the origin and legitimacy of an NFT and its linked object.

Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) are an important part of the self-sovereign identity (SSI) technology stack. Gimly has built a full draft of the EOSIO Decentralised Identifier (DID) method specification.

Gimly is launching the EOSIO identity working group to enable self-sovereign identity (SSI) solutions using EOSIO technology. Through conformance to open W3C standards, the working group promotes and facilitates the ecosystem development for EOSIO based identities that are interoperable with other blockchain protocols and the wider SSI ecosystem.

Gimly is part of the European SSI infrastructure programme (eSSIF-Lab), building a bridge for the implementation of NFC smartcards with secure elements as physical SSI identifiers. We aim to enable self-sovereign identity for both online and offline identification, authorization and access management, with a decreased dependency on the use of personal smartphones.

Gimly uses smart card microchips for secure private key management in blockchain solutions. This project demonstrates how this technology can be used in a Lisk supply chain solution built with javascript.

Team Gimly won the KLM, DHL, and Merck/MSD challenge in Odyssey Momentum 2020. Our physical NFC identifier (eID card) unlocks the self-sovereign identity (SSI) and the benefits of privacy preserving exchange of information in an Enterprise and logistics use-case.
